Data Sharing

The World Happiness Report is powered by data from the Gallup World Poll.

Since creating the World Poll in 2005, Gallup has conducted studies in more than 160 countries and territories that are home to more than 98% of the world’s adult population.

The World Poll survey includes more than 100 global questions as well as region-specific items. Gallup asks residents from Australia to Zimbabwe the same questions, every time, in the same way. This makes it possible to trend data from year to year and make direct country comparisons.

We also utilise data from many other international, national, regional, and other datasets which are generally available for public use.

Data available for free

The data we present in Figure 2.1 are available to download for free. This includes:

• The three-year averages for life evaluation from 2012 onwards
• The 95% confidence intervals for those averages
• The contributions of the six explanatory factors

Gallup also publishes several Global Datasets for Public Use which are made freely available to the public by Gallup’s clients.

Data available by request or subscription

If you require access to additional data from the Gallup World Poll, there are three options:

• Journalists can request data by contacting mediainquiry@gallup.com.
• Researchers can request access through their institution.
• Anyone can subscribe to Gallup Analytics. With different tiers of access, you can find the subscription option that gets you the data you need.
